Elderflower & Water Mint — Ampney Park
A drink shaped by what was growing around us.
Wild water mint and foraged elderflower became a light, aromatic Hugo-style spritz — fresh, floral and made for drinking outside as the heat began to leave the day.
Served at Ampney Park with ribeye, horseradish and lettuce sourdough sandwiches from the barbecue, somewhere in the last of the evening sun.

King Stone Dairy — A Cotswold Picnic
A visit to King Stone Dairy to meet David and learn a little more about the organic farming and cheesemaking behind some of my favourite local cheeses.
Milk from the farm is transformed into cheeses including Rollright, before being sent just a few miles down the road — a lovely example of the producers and ingredients that make the Cotswolds such an interesting place to cook and make drinks.
We finished as all good research should: outside with a picnic.
King Stone cheese, good bread, homemade pickles and kimchi, and a couple of cold drinks. A slightly grown-up Ploughman’s, eaten in the grass.

The Marianito — King Stone Dairy
Somewhere between an aperitivo and a Negroni, and exactly where we wanted to be on a hot afternoon.
Nito British vermouth brings fruit, botanicals and gentle bitterness; Renais gin adds bright citrus, juniper and its distinctive vinous character from upcycled Grand Cru grape skins. Campari brings the familiar bitter edge.
Poured ice cold and served with smoked Perelló olives, caperberries and fresh orange — somewhere between a garnish and a Gilda.
We took it to King Stone Dairy in Chedworth for a picnic with some very good cheese, a blanket and a few things from the garden.
Good cheese. Cold drinks. Eating outside.
Hard to improve on.
